Slow Food Columbia is one of 200+ Slow Food USA chapters, located in Columbia, South Carolina. Our mission is to support the movement behind GOOD, CLEAN and FAIR foodways in the Midlands and beyond. Our convivium hosts workshops, potlucks and other events throughout the year to celebrate local + seasonal flavors; to showcase the culinary talents of our region's chefs, farmers, + artisan producers; to strengthen connections between members of our local food community; and to educate the public about the importance of knowing where your food comes from.

Plant an Extra Row for Harvest Hope!

As The State newspaper recently reported, Harvest Hope Food Bank is asking everyone with home gardens to plant an extra row for those in need of food. When it's ready for harvest, you can donate it to a local food bank like Harvest Hope!

In today's economic climate, this is an excellent, affordable way to give back to the community! Slow Food Columbia encourages everyone planning and planting their gardens this season to add an extra row.

Obama Garden: Good News for the Slow Food Community

Good news for our food community - the Obamas will plant a 1,100-square foot garden on the White House lawn. This will be the first White House garden since Eleanor Roosevelt's Victory Garden. Sounds like a good victory for our food movement as well!

Stay tuned for the minutes of our meeting this week complete with action items/next steps.

Just a quick posting to let our community know that Alice Waters will be on 60 minutes this weekend. Apparently Leslie Stahl and the crew went to Slow Food Nation last year and filmed this piece. Tune in on Sunday, March 15, at 7 pm!
