Slow Food Columbia is one of 200+ Slow Food USA chapters, located in Columbia, South Carolina. Our mission is to support the movement behind GOOD, CLEAN and FAIR foodways in the Midlands and beyond. Our convivium hosts workshops, potlucks and other events throughout the year to celebrate local + seasonal flavors; to showcase the culinary talents of our region's chefs, farmers, + artisan producers; to strengthen connections between members of our local food community; and to educate the public about the importance of knowing where your food comes from.

What is Slow Food?

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

The Columbia, SC chapter is an official subsidiary of the national Slow Food U.S.A. organization.

Our Mission
Slow Food USA seeks to create dramatic and lasting change in the food system. We reconnect Americans with the people, traditions, plants, animals, fertile soils and waters that produce our food. We inspire a transformation in food policy, production practices and market forces so that they ensure equity, sustainability and pleasure in the food we eat.

Our Vision
Food is a common language and a universal right. Slow Food USA envisions a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it and good for the planet.

About Our Local Chapters
Organized by volunteer leaders, local chapters carry out the Slow Food mission in their communities. Chapters offer educational events and activities to promote sustainability and biodiversity and connect farmers, cooks, educators, students and everyone else who cares about their food and the environment.

Slow Food International
Each of Slow Food's 100,000 members around the world are part of a convivium – a local chapter – that brings the Slow Food philosophy to life through the events and activities they organize in their communities: From simple shared meals and tastings, to visits to local producers and farms, conferences and discussions, film screenings/festivals, taste education courses for children and adults, promoting farmers' markets or supporting local and international campaigns. Members enjoy coming together to share the everyday joys of food and to get to know their local foods and producers and spread that knowledge. Today there are more than 1,300 convivia around the worldFind a convivium near you.
